Why So Many People Skip Their Cleanings — And Why That Changes Here
Most people avoid cleanings because the experience is uncomfortable. At CHS Dental, we use technology that makes the experience genuinely different.
The Hidden Risk of Skipping Cleanings:
If cleanings are delayed or skipped for too long, plaque and calculus can continue to build up and can lead to gum inflammation, bleeding, and eventually gum disease. Over time this can progress into periodontal disease which degrades the bone around the teeth, this is irreversible. Regular cleanings are what help prevent small issues from turning into more complicated problems.
Traditional Cleaning vs. CHS Dental
The Traditional Cleaning
- Metal scalers scraping the tooth surface — often painful, especially near the gumline
- Gritty abrasive paste and spinning rubber cups that leave teeth sensitive
- Biofilm missed in hard-to-reach areas like pits, fissures, and under the gumline
- Risk of enamel wear and soft tissue irritation from repetitive instrument contact
- Uncomfortable enough that many patients simply stop coming back
The CHS Dental Cleaning Experience

Guided Biofilm air polishing — warm water, air, and fine powder, no metal scraping

Reaches into pits, fissures, and under the gumline where scrapers can't

Preserves enamel and soft tissue — minimally invasive by design

Safe for implants, porcelain veneers, ceramic crowns & orthodontic appliances

Reduced sensitivity — most patients feel better leaving than when they walked in
Private Practice. Personal Care. Dr. Kusek at Every Visit.
CHS Dental utilizes Guided Biofilm Reduction and air polishing technology to elevate the hygiene experience.
Unlike traditional polishing methods that rely on abrasive pastes and metal instruments, air polishing uses a controlled stream of warm water, air, and fine powder to gently remove biofilm, plaque, and staining.
This method is more comfortable for patients and has been shown to more effectively remove harmful biofilm while preserving enamel and soft tissue health.
CHS Dental is not a corporate chain. Dr. Kusek owns this practice — which means he examines every patient at every visit, takes time to answer real questions, and builds treatment plans based on what you actually need, not a quota. Supported by advanced digital imaging and a spa-inspired office designed to put nervous patients at ease.
- Dr. Kusek performs a comprehensive exam at every single cleaning visit
- 3D digital X-rays for accurate, early detection — reviewed with you on-screen
- Personalized home care guidance — specific to your oral health, not a pamphlet
- Nitrous oxide and IV sedation available — just ask, no judgment
- Calm, spa-inspired office designed to reduce dental anxiety from the moment you arrive
- No rushing, no upselling — you have all the time you need
Guided Biofilm Reduction & Air Polishing
CHS Dental uses air polishing technology to elevate the hygiene experience — replacing the abrasive instruments of traditional cleanings with a more precise, more comfortable, and more effective approach.
What Is Biofilm?
Biofilm — commonly called plaque — is the sticky bacterial layer that forms on teeth, gums, and beneath the gumline. Left unchecked, it calcifies into tartar, triggers inflammation, and leads to cavities and gum disease. Most dental problems start here.
How Air Polishing Works
Instead of metal scalers, CHS Dental uses a controlled stream of warm water, air, and fine powder to gently blast away biofilm, surface staining, and early calculus — from teeth, between teeth, along the gumline, and even in deep pockets that instruments physically cannot reach. At our office, we have implemented air polishing over standard polishing methods using erythritol powder. The erythritol is similar to xylitol in the fact that it inhibits the bacteria that causes cavities; overall it is more effective at removing biofilm and plaque. Since it is a powder, we are able to clean every surface of the tooth including in between the gums for a more effective clean. We will also follow through with an ultrasonic scaler which helps remove any hard deposits in between the teeth to ensure a more thorough cleaning.
Clinically More Effective
Research shows air polishing removes biofilm more effectively than traditional polishing cups from pits, fissures, and interproximal surfaces. It's also significantly safer for patients with implants, veneers, and ceramic crowns — the powder is non-abrasive and will not scratch delicate surfaces.
Genuinely More Comfortable
Unlike traditional polishing that can leave teeth sensitive and gums irritated, the air polishing experience is gentle enough that many patients — including those who previously avoided cleanings due to discomfort — describe it as surprisingly pleasant. Reduced sensitivity after treatment is common. At CHS Dental, we use gentle, modern techniques to make your cleaning as comfortable as possible. For added comfort, we offer blankets and pillows so you can relax. If it is also helpful for you, feel free to bring a pair of headphones in. We want to ensure your visit is comfortable.

What to Expect at CHS Dental
Before Your Appointment: Arriving a few minutes early helps set your appointment up for success and keeps things from feeling rushed. If you’re able, please have any previous dental records sent over beforehand.

Digital X-Rays & Initial Evaluation
For new patients and at appropriate intervals, high-resolution digital X-rays are taken to give Dr. Kusek a complete picture of your tooth structure, bone levels, and any concerns not visible to the naked eye. Digital X-rays expose you to a fraction of the radiation of traditional film, with immediate results visible on-screen.
Professional Cleaning — Air Polishing
Your hygienist uses our air polishing system to remove biofilm, plaque, and staining from all tooth surfaces — including between teeth and along the gumline — with warm water, air, and fine powder. No metal scrapers. No abrasive paste. Minimal scaling is used only where hardened calculus requires it.
Comprehensive Exam by Dr. Kusek
Dr. Kusek performs a thorough examination of your teeth, gums, bite alignment, and oral tissues — reviewing any X-ray findings and checking for early signs of cavities, gum disease, or other conditions. Findings are explained clearly, and any recommended treatment is discussed at your own pace with no pressure.
Personalised Home Care & Next Visit
Before you leave, your hygienist will share personalised, practical guidance for maintaining your results between visits. Your next cleaning is scheduled before you go — so staying on track is effortless. After your cleaning, you can brush and floss as normal. It’s common to have mild gum tenderness or sensitivity for a day or so, especially if there was inflammation, and it usually settles quickly. The most important thing is to stay consistent with your homecare after your cleaning to ensure good oral hygiene.
